Gertrude Saddle

After the Steward Island trip, we first spent the night there and explored Ulva Island on the next day. This is an island that is completely free of rats and other rodents, so the natural birds and trees of New Zealand can survive hear. We saw lots of interesting birds and the world's smallest penguin, but they are a bit hard to photograph...

In the afternoon, we took the ferry back to the mainland and drove all the way up through Te Anau and further north on the milford road. We spent the night at a DOC camping ground in Fjordland. On the next day, we did the Gertrude Saddle day trip.

Here are the fotos, enjoy.

After that, we drove on to Milford Sound, which was a bit disappointing after all the other cool mountain scenery we passed through. Therefore, we returned and went to a backpacker's in Te Anau.
